Feeling More At Home

I have to say since the last time I shared my blog I've been running all over the place trying to meet new faces. Over the past two weeks I have managed to visit two churches, attend a Christmas gathering with the Aledo Advocats, go to mommy & me play dates and this past weekend we drove out to the Clark Botanical Gardens. Wow the gardens were amazing. Each weekend through December 18th they had ongoing holiday events at the gardens. The lights were beautiful. My boys loved the Polar Express that runs through a back portion of the property. We also got to see Santa in the beautiful chapel and of course one of his reindeer. It was such a nice event and a great place to take your family. The chilly night made it feel even more like the holidays. I also felt good supporting a local venue. I look forward to visiting the gardens in the spring when the flowers and trees are in full bloom. As we approach Christmas I can finally say I'm starting to feel like Parker County is our new home. I of course miss Corpus Christi especially my dear friends. It has been a struggle to start over. So far we have been blessed and look forward to our new adventures in 2011. Exploring The Fort Worth Museum of Science & History

Needless to say having a 5 year old and a 2 year old means your always on the go. To be honest I prefer it that way. The sooner I can wear my kids out the better off we all are. Since we moved to Parker County I've been searching high and low trying to find stuff to keep the boys busy outside of our home. Don't get me wrong we love our new home but when we stay home all day the boys end up in time-out for beating up on each other, not sharing, or just the usual sibiling spats that takes place. Therefore, if I take them out of the house they get to explore and see so much more then just the television sitting in my family room. Monday & Wednesday both boys go to Mom's Day Out and on Tuesday just the older one attends. This of course leaves Thursday and Friday. Ahhh! I'm always thinking "What am I going to do with them today?" So this Thursday we headed out to the Fort Worth Museum of Science & History. First on the agenda the Polar Express in the Omni Theater, wow what a great experience! My smallest one was a bit scared at first since it was so loud but, eventually he relaxed. Before Thursday I had never seen The Polar Express, although we have the book we have yet to read it to the boys. Overall, I thought it was great movie that explained exactly how Santa works his wonders on Christmas Eve. We will definitely have to order this one and watch it every holiday season. After the movie we headed out into the museum. First stop was the children's area that included a train station play set, a miniature hospital setting and the boy's favorite, the grocery store. The boys loved filling their minature carts with fresh (plastic) produce and then running it across the belt and scanner. As we left the play grocery store I thought to myself that my youngest could have spent the entire day there. After this we headed to lunch in the cafeteria. The blue jello was a hit and of course, pizza. Finally we headed towards the gift shop which has a great slide for the kids to try out. Our last stop was the outdoor dino dig. The weather was absolutely beautiful that day so I just sat on a bench and watched the boys dig through the sand. They had an amazing time. I think this is my favorite part because I just sat there and watched them from a distance and realized how eager they are to learn. Their minds never stop along with their little hands. Final note, the museum was a wonderful hands on experience. I feel so lucky to live so close that we can go to the museum whenever we want. Mission accomplished, another day filled with new adventures and fun! Have a great one!

Finding More Each Day

Wow, I feel like I've hit the motherload. Over the past week I have found more information about active mommy playgroups, upcoming holiday events, local story times, soccer sign up and the list goes on. I knew Parker County was loaded with fun things to do and I'm sure this is just the beginning. I can't wait to see what next week brings. I've also found that just getting in your car you can find so much more about your community. I love seeing the shops in Aledo and Weatherford. I can't wait to stop in some of them to see what I can purchase for our new home. We still need a lot of new furniture. Just trying to budget of course. Well that's all for now. I hope to share more info next week about my new community. Maybe I will even share some pics.

The New Mama In Town

Yes, I'm the new mama in town. I do know a few mamas like my gal pal Lisa Leach but I kinda feel lost. We just moved here from Corpus Christi. During my 6 1/2 years in Corpus I managed to have two little boys, work at a few local gyms and start my own Stroller Strides business. Through these glorious events I met so many wonderful people and made friendships that will last a lifetime. So waht does a mama do now that she is new in town? Write about it maybe? Well I'm just trying to find out as much as possible about the area: Parker County or shall we say Weatherford , Hudson Oaks, Willow Park and Aledo. I know there are a few other small towns in the county but these seem to be the main attractions. Each day we learn something new about the area. So far we have managed to find 3 good parks and love the Sonic in Aledo, it makes for a great afternoon stop after school. The boys have started this amazing Mom's Day Out Program at the Aledo Methodist Church. The teachers are so loving and made me and the boys feel so welcome. I also got to take a Yoga class at the Aledo Yoga & Nia Studio. Another wonderful hot spot in Aledo. I guess you could say I'm starting to venture my way out of the boxes that are piled nice and high in my house. In the end the past month has been hard. A lot of tears and excitement all in one. As we get closer to the new year I'm hoping to find my way in Parker County. I know it time we will meet some wonderful people. Change is hard and now that I'm a Parker County Mama I'm going to accept change and take advantage of all of the wonderful opportunities I can. This area seems to be growing rapidly and I'm ready to help it expand.
